Electronic Commerce

This course is an amazing opportunity to learn more about how to build and grow business online. Too many think that e-commerce is a modern day lottery, where people get rich and famous simply from posting things online. Because of sites like Amazon, YouTube, and Google, people think that doing business online is easy, despite concerns about privacy and safety. They think because "everyone is online", the money will come if they just start putting things on the web.

Some have ambitions to become the next newest Internet sensation. You'll see them post books, pictures, videos, and a variety of things online. You know who they are. The ones who ask you to share their posts. The ones who are following and friending people online nonstop in an effort to increase in popularity. Though I applaud the entrepreneurial endeavors, there's a better way to market and sell your products other than by making redundant posts to the same old friends and family.

Tapping into online markets and e-commerce requires a lot of strategy, research, and consistency. It's a business you have to build up like any other brick and mortar entity. In this course, you'll learn more about online marketing and e-commerce than you could imagine. You'll leave with your eyes opened about how blogs, social media, website developers, data analysts, graphic/motion designers, and many hardworking others have built and retained income through e-commerce. In fact, I hope you will leave this course with business ideas of your own.

So take your time and take in all that you can about the history, theories, present standings, and marketing practices of e-commerce. As you follow along with our syllabus and course instructions, you too will be a certified e-commerce professional in no time. I hope you're ready for the ride, because it's definitely going to be a good one!

Welcome aboard and know that there is more to come!

  1. Everyone down to my 6 year wants to be a youtube star. They think that by gaining mass amounts of followers they will somehow become rich and famous. I am happy my kiddos have the drive, but I have made it very clear that hard work is what makes you successful. I have helped both of my kids realize that they need to decide what they have a passion for and vlog about that. When you have quality content the followers will come and more importantly stay. I am hoping their passion for their hobby or interest will become the priority over acquiring followers. I want them to develop skills not just become the next viral prank sensation. I can't wait to take what we learn in this course and apply it to my kids futures.

  2. I recently looked into opening an Etsy store and was shocked at how much marketing went into it! It was a little intimidating, but looked like a good learning opportunity. After this class, I hope to take what I've learned and apply it to a real life situation.

  3. Four years ago i would admit i was into the hype of starting a Youtube channel and expecting my channel to grow from just uploading a video. There are so many ways people videos go viral but i personally believe its the algorithm that helps others grow. Many people have connections without depending on social media or having rich parent even though it not a bad thing.

What is E-Commerce?

Where was the last place you did your shopping? Sounds like a Family Feud question, because where we shop has changed so much over the years. In the 80's, you'd often hear people say something like "at the mall". In 2018, you hear people say "online" or "Amazon" like they are your local retailers around the corner or just up the street. Ever consider the variety of places we do our shopping from these days? We shop in our cars while Uber takes us to our next destination, we shop in between classes, we shop while sitting at home when we're supposed to be doing homework. I've even heard it said that the Internet isn't a place people log onto anymore. It's practically where we live. With devices that connect us to the Internet at any and every given point in time, people are "window shopping", selling products, referring friends, and purchasing items online 24/7. This is what e-Commerce, short for electronic comme...
